> Coordinate Lamp
“I straightened up and looked out of the window at the dark clouds hanging over the North Sea, thinking of all I had lost in the course of my life: times gone for ever, friends who had died or disappeared, feelings I would never know again.”
This lamp was inspired by the above quote from Norwegian Wood by Haruki Murakami. In response to this quote I created an object that depending on a specified persons geographical proximity, would grow and shrink according to how far away or close they are.
The further away in the world they are from you the larger the object gets, and visa versa. The object acts as a constant physical reminder of another persons presence, meaning if in the same room as you, the object will close and take the form of a regular lampshade.
The object works using GPS data sent from a smartphone to a wireless programmed Arduino microcontroller, activating the servo motor to turn accordingly dependent on the remote coordinates.
